Sometimes we pick out stockings for our children and sometimes they pick out their own. And they always want them personalized. They want to see their names written on their stockings for everyone to see. “That’s mine! That’s my stocking.”

It all starts with finding the right personalized Christmas stocking. It may be for decorating purposes or it may be for the children; but stockings are an important part of Christmas decorating. The stockings are hung and a little voice says, “Is it Christmas yet?”

It’s not just getting into the stockings on Christmas morning that holds all the pleasure and excitement for children. It’s seeing the stockings come out of storage and hung on the mantel or any other traditional place you have for hanging. It’s helping to decorate the Christmas tree and finding all their favorite ornaments. And when the job of decorating is done, little eyes go back to the stockings. They go to their own personal stocking and stand there looking.

You don’t have to have children to decorate with stockings. Stockings are traditional and are part of the Christmas décor. You can decorate with something that looks whimsical or something that looks a little more on the elegant side. They’re both fun and beautiful.

Our pets are not forgotten in our decorating frenzy. There are Christmas stockings designed especially for both cats and dogs. Children want stockings for their pets. And they want them personalized. After all, they are members of the family too. Even people who don’t have children, adore their pets and hang pet stockings with their names on them, alongside their own.

I still remember when I was a child and seeing our stockings hanging from the mantel and the thrill of Christmas morning. When I became a parent, I too, carried on the tradition and hung personalized stockings for my children, just as my mother had done.

My children are grown now and have children of their own. They reminisce about Christmas when they were little. They remember certain ornaments they helped to place on the tree year after year. And they remember their stockings. Their stockings are now keepsakes that bring back a flood of warm memories; and sometimes a flood of tears. I no longer have my children with me, but thank Heaven for grandchildren.

Merry Christmas and happy memories.
